Complete Website Rebuild Description
Example Site: www.sharing-our-roots.org
Agricultural 501(c)(3) non-profit in Northfield, MN supporting immigrant, BIPOC, & queer farmers with shared land access and infrastructure.
CONTEXT:
The organization previously had a Wordpress site with a crashed server and was seeking a complete website overhaul. Their existing site was outdated and not mobile-friendly. They needed a modern, accessible design with improved functionality and tools to better engage their audience.
PROCESS:
I used Google Analytics to better understand the client’s goals, audience, and branding, then created a mockup web map that reflected the new strategy, while adhering to SEO best practices and accessibility standards. I re-wrote copy to ensure clarity and actionability, then added new features—such as an interactive event calendar, asset archives, and a blog— to enhance user experience. Throughout the project, I collaborated closely with the SOR team, incorporating their feedback to align the final design with their vision.
IMpact
The website is now a dynamic hub for their audience, empowering the organization to better share their mission and achieve their goals.
The new website boosted traffic by 60% in the first six months, with improved navigation leading to higher engagement and lower bounce rates.
Eye-catching aerial footage on the home page helped expand community members' interest in exploring the site, with a 45% increase in the bounce rate.
New features (like the automated event and volunteer registration system) made the website easier for community members to use and streamlined communication for the SOR farm team.
Fixing the server issue and migrating the domain to Squarespace allowed staff easier access to editing content on the website, which increased staff comfort and confidence.
A new translation widget made the site accessible in their participants' 5 most commonly used languages.
An easily editable blog and a few custom templates made sharing new content with their newsletter audience accessible.
